Psychotherapist, Trauma & Women’s Health
CPYC is hiring an experienced trauma-focused psychotherapist to work with women through the big thresholds of life: pregnancy and postpartum, parenting, perimenopause and menopause, and the trauma and relational wounds that often surface in those seasons.
Location: Collingwood, ON. In person at least one day a week, + virtual sessions (in person office hours available: Tuesday am, Thursday all day or weekends)
Reports to: Director
Strategic Oversight: Director
Position Type: Independent Contractor (Weekdays required, weekends available but not required)
Start: Begin seeing clients January to February 2027
At the Collingwood Psychotherapy and Yoga Centre, we offer relational, trauma-informed depth psychotherapy. We work with the body, the nervous system, relationships and the deeper layers of self, and we believe great therapy starts with how therapists show up as humans.
The Work
This role centers on trauma-focused therapy for women going through emotional, relational, psychological or hormonal changes in their lives. You’ll be a strong fit if your experience includes:
- Perinatal and postpartum; concerns, including birth trauma, identity shifts in
early motherhood, and the old wounds that parenting can reawaken. - Perimenopause and menopause; including mood, sleep, body and identity changes, trauma that can come up and the grief and freedom this stage can hold.
- Complex trauma and relational wounds; worked with at depth, and at a pace the nervous system can hold. Have significant experience with a trauma modality.
- Parents; supported through a maturity model lens (we love Brad Reedy’s The Journey of the Heroic Parent). We help parents do their own growth work rather than placating them or managing their child’s behaviour for them
- Embodiment; with a background in yoga, yoga therapy, or another body-based or energy based practice you live as well as teach (sound, reiki, somatic experiencing, tai chi, qigong)
- LGBTQ+ clients; with affirming, grounded care that centers the client’s experience
Trauma modalities we value include Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR), the Comprehensive Resource Model (CRM), Trauma Informed Stabilization Treatment (TIST), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Somatic Experiencing (SE) and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy.
Who You Are
You have done your own deep healing work. You have completed a substantial personal psychotherapy process of your own, (not only training hours) and you continue to take your own “medicine”. This is a requirement, not a preference. We believe you
can only take clients where you have been willing to go yourself. We are looking for people who are committed to continuing personal growth and development through the modalities they offer.
You think clinically through a theory you have embodied. You can take a client’s story and conceptualize it clearly through a defined theoretical lens, and that lens guides your decisions in the room. Your modalities are not techniques you apply; they are part of how you understand clients and the work you will do with them.
You are grounded, steady and easy to work with. Clients and colleagues experience you as warm, calm, friendly and mature. You are reasonable, not reactive. You can disagree directly, repair when things go sideways, problem solve rather than complain and take feedback without defensiveness.
You build lasting therapeutic relationships. You know how to create a consistent frame, book clients forward, and hold clients through the hard middle of therapy, so the people who start with you stay long enough to change. You take ownership of your caseload and are curious, not blaming, when something isn’t working.
You want a long-term clinical home. You want to grow with CPYC, contribute to our culture, and become visible in the community in ways that feel authentic to you.
This role is not the right fit if you are looking for a room-rental arrangement, prefer to work outside a shared clinical culture, or are not open to consultation, feedback and ongoing growth.
What We Offer You
- Practice support: Dedicated administration support, Jane App, billing, scheduling support, policies and procedures infrastructure, so you can focus on clinical work
- Caseload building: website and directory profiles written with you, Google Ads, SEO, referral-partner outreach, short intro videos, and positioning for your niche
- Clinical community: monthly peer consultation, Director support meetings, in-house continuing education, quarterly administration trainings, and an end-of-year team celebration
- Space: furnished, private offices in downtown Collingwood, with weekday and weekend times available
- Compensation: we discuss our compensation structure if you are invited to the second interview.
Responsibilities
- Provide trauma-focused individual relational psychotherapy, plus parent work where it fits your experience.
- Build to a stable caseload of at least 10, and ideally 15 or more, client hours a week.
- Offer consistent weekly availability, this may be hybrid or virtual only, however, we prefer at least one in-person day.
- Conduct intake, case conceptualization and treatment planning, book clients forward, and take payment.
- Take 15-minute discovery video calls with prospective clients (outside of the caseload hours).
- Keep timely, ethical clinical notes and respond promptly to client and administrative communication.
- Maintain supervision or consultation on your own.
- With support from the team, contribute content, outreach or workshops to support your visibility and so that clients learn about who you are so they can choose you.
- Work collaboratively with the Office Manager to ensure scheduling is maximized, communication is timely, and clients are supported.
- Take part in peer consultation, administrative training, in house training and Director check-ins (quarterly and as needed).
Qualifications
Required
- Full registration in good standing with an Ontario regulatory college (CRPO, OCSWSSW or equivalent).
- A relevant graduate degree, psychotherapy diploma or recognized equivalent.
- At least 3 years and 1,000 hours of direct psychotherapy practice.
- Completion of your own personal psychotherapy process, with at least 100 hours of personal therapy and plans to continue to grow.
- At least 100 hours of clinical supervision and intention to continue with supervision.
- Training in at least one trauma-focused modality (DBR, CRM, TIST, IFS, EMDR, SE, Sensorimotor or similar) and experience working with complex cases.
- Relational psychotherapy training and fluency (relational, self psychology, intersubjective, object relations, or similar).
- A coherent theoretical orientation you can use to conceptualize clients and direct treatment.
- Experience with women’s mental health, including perinatal or menopausal concerns.
- Able to reliably commute to Collingwood, including in winter (this is for in person or hybrid candidates, not applicable for virtual only candidates). Must be able to meet in person for interviews, monthly peer supervision, in-house training and celebrations.
Strong assets
- Yoga teacher training (RYT 200 or more) or yoga therapy certification (C-IAYT).
- DBR, EMDR, SE, CRM or TIST training.
- Familiarity with parenting models.
- Strong experience working with complex trauma and dissociation.
Required upon hiring: A clear Vulnerable Sector Check, proof of professional and general liability insurance, education documents and confirmation of good standing with your college.
