Expressive Arts Therapy: Healing Through Creativity
Expressive Arts Therapy: Healing Through Creativity
Expressive arts therapy is a form of creative therapy that uses art, movement, sound, writing, or drama to explore what words alone can’t express. No artistic skill required—just curiosity. It’s not about interpreting or analyzing art—it’s about using creativity to discover your own meaning and insights.
Why Try Creative Therapy?
Play and creativity aren’t just for kids. As adults, we sometimes need to relearn play. Through art-making and movement, you can reduce stress, calm the nervous system, and reconnect with joy and vitality.
Art-making also invites a state of flow—where worries quiet down, the body relaxes, and new perspectives emerge. This is one reason expressive arts therapy feels grounding, freeing, and transformative.
Trauma-Informed Healing
Trauma is not only in the mind—it lives in the body and nervous system. Expressive arts therapy works directly with the senses and the body, making the invisible visible and offering safe, embodied ways to heal.
What a Session Looks Like
Every session is unique. You choose the modality and direction—whether painting, journaling, movement, sound, or a mix. I serve as a guide and companion: offering prompts, witnessing your process, and sometimes joining in playful exploration.
I don’t interpret your art. Instead, I support you in discovering your own meaning—according to what feels true, relevant, and healing for you. Everything unfolds at your pace and comfort level.

Quote:
“The body, not the thinking brain, is where we experience most of our pain, pleasure, and joy, and where we process most of what happens to us. It is also where we do most of our healing, including our emotional and psychological healing. And it is where we experience resilience and a sense of flow.”. – Resmaa Menakem, My Grandmother’s Hands
