Help your child find a way forward with psychotherapy.

Children feel deeply, even when they can’t always explain what’s going on. Sometimes those big feelings show up as anxiety, anger, shutdowns, clinginess, or behaviours that don’t quite make sense. And sometimes, despite everyone’s best efforts, nothing seems to help.

At Collingwood Psychotherapy & Yoga Centre, we offer a grounded, relational approach to working with children therapeutically that honours each child’s emotional world—and involves the caregivers who shape it.

We work with children who are navigating:

  • Anxiety or low mood

  • Grief and loss

  • Family changes or divorce

  • Social struggles

  • Trauma (including medical, attachment, or developmental trauma)

  • Emotional regulation or sensory overwhelm

  • Big feelings that show up in small bodies

Psychotherapy for Children in Collingwood, Ontario

We draw on a range of trauma-informed, attachment-based, and creative modalities—like Relational Psychotherapy, Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, Expressive Arts Therapy, Satir Family Therapy, Attachment-Focused Family Therapy, CBT and Trauma-Focused interventions. We also integrate developmental theory to understand the full context of a child’s needs and strengths.

But more than any method, we begin by listening. Not just to what a child says, but to what they show us—through play, art, movement, energy, and connection.

The Role of Parents & Caregivers

We believe healing happens in relationship. That’s why our work with children almost always includes collaboration with the adults in their lives.

Sometimes that looks like regular caregiver sessions for insight, support, and parenting strategies. Other times, it means coaching parents in how to attune more deeply to their child’s inner world, hold firm with loving limits, or make sense of confusing behaviours. At its heart, this work helps caregivers feel more confident, connected, and aligned in their parenting.

You don’t have to do it perfectly. You just have to be willing to show up with curiosity, presence, and love. We’ll walk with you from there.

Meeting Children Where They Are

Today’s children are growing up in a fast, pressured world. Many are carrying more than we realize—from overstimulation and high parental stress, to grief, conflict, or invisible overwhelm. They are sensitive to the unspoken and attuned to the emotional climate around them—yet they often don’t have the words to explain what they’re feeling.

Therapy gives them a place to explore that inner world safely. With the right support, children can process loss, integrate trauma, and find their voice—so they don’t have to carry their pain alone or allow it to get stuck in their body.

We believe every child has wisdom within them. Our work is to help them remember it—and to help you see it too.
