Why I Started Whole Again: A Love Letter to the Work that Moves Me Most

The Importance of Cultivating the Use of Self

By Tara McGee, MSW, RSW, Dip TiRP, Psychotherapist, OCSWSSW, Yoga Therapist, IAYT

There’s a certain kind of moment I live for as a therapist. When someone’s eyes light up—not with answers, but with awareness. When their breath softens. When they reconnect with something essential inside themselves that had long been buried. When a long held pattern softens and leaves the body. That kind of shift isn’t about fixing. It’s about remembering. It’s about releasing. And it’s the heartbeat of Whole Again.

This program wasn’t born from strategy—it was born from love. From years of walking alongside people in therapy and witnessing the power of presence, practice, and deep relational work. Our clinic is built on that foundation. The one-to-one work we do at Collingwood Psychotherapy & Yoga Centre is the heart of what we offer—transformational, embodied, and steady. Whole Again simply extends that heart into a different format: an immersive, human, sacred space where people can come home to themselves in community.

I created Whole Again because I love running intensives. I love the container of time and shared intention. I love the honesty people bring when they show up for something they’re not quite sure they’re ready for, but know they need. I love the way nervousness softens into awe. The way people begin to trust themselves again. The way the land, the breath, the movement—all become part of the healing.

This isn’t just a group therapy program. It’s a space for over-functioners (like me) to pause. To land. To be witnessed, without needing to perform. It’s for the ones who have spent a lifetime being reliable, and are finally ready to be real. We live in a culture that encourages fragmentation, disconnection, dissociation, inauthenticity. This work gently but firmly invites us back—to each other, to the body, to the earth, to what really matters.

And we don’t dive in blindly. One of my biggest concerns was how to ensure people came prepared. I’ve seen what happens when we try to do deep work without the internal safety to hold it. So Phase One of Whole Again builds that capacity—giving people tools, language, and embodied experience to prepare their systems for the depth to come in the intensive. We honour the pace of the nervous system, because that’s what makes true transformation possible.

Honestly? I made this program for myself too. It’s my favourite way to work. It brings out my creativity, it allows me to use the full range of my training in yoga, psychotherapy, energy work, and group facilitation. I get to collaborate with gifted healers and co-facilitators like Sass and sometimes my husband Peter, who hold the field with reverence and care. Together, we create a kind of energetic web that supports every person’s unfolding.

And the results speak for themselves. People often get further in 6 weeks than they might in 6 months of biweekly sessions—not because the therapy is better, but because the format allows for uninterrupted presence and accountability. It’s concentrated. Alive. Real. Deep. The group becomes part of the medicine.

Some participants come in grief. Some come feeling broken or numb. Some just want a reset—a way back to themselves. They leave with tools, relationships, and a sense of possibility. They leave with a deeper understanding of their nervous systems, their patterns, their strengths. And most importantly, they leave with a felt sense of their own worth.

Whole Again is not a quick fix. And it’s not a replacement for ongoing therapy. It’s a catalyst. A remembering. A sacred pause that helps people return to what’s already true within them.

If you’re someone who’s feeling called—not just to feel better, but to feel more you—I invite you to explore this work. We’ll walk together, with curiosity, honesty, and care. And we’ll hold space for something beautiful to unfold.

Spots are filling for the upcoming Whole Again program (Phase 1 starts January 30th, 2026). Last day to register is January 9th, 2026.
